Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS FT – Theatres Grip
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals engaged GE Healthcare Finnamore to implement a programme of ‘Operational Grip’ in theatres. OSCCA (the Directorate responsible for theatres) had a deficit of c£3m, and recognised the need for an improved focus on performance (reduced on-day cancellations and better utilisation of operating time).
The challenge was to give theatre staff a clear understanding of day to day performance, and allow them to take action to improve it. In parallel, the Directorate required coaching and development for theatre managers, to embed the cultural changes required for a performance focus to take hold. This would prepare the ground for appointment of Patient Flow Leads, who would manage the process on an ongoing basis.
